What’s All The Talk About Affiliate Marketing?

If you’re interested in home-based Internet business opportunities at all, you’ve probably run into the term ‘affiliate marketing’ or ‘affiliate programs’. What do these mean and how do they work?

Imagine a business where you are a sales consultant working on commission. However, unlike most sales jobs, you never have to meet or speak with a customer or even your employer. You are not restricted to working for any single employer or are you restricted in the products or services you can sell. You can sell low-priced goods and services at volume or high-priced stuff to very select markets.

Affiliate programs also offer you the freedom to work whenever and wherever you want. Work as hard as you like or find a sweet-spot and ride it for years with just a little bit of setup work!

You can work your business 100% online or offline or some variation of the two. The options and combinations are endless.

In this post, I’ll talk a little about what you need to get started and succeed in this business arena both in terms of the skills that you will need and the infrastructure (products, services, web sites, etc.). This can only be a very brief overview given my space limitations. However, there is tons of free info available at many places, including my site at EZ-Internet-Cash.com.

What kind of skills will you need?

First of all, if you’re financially able, you can hire other folks or purchase service products that can help tremendously and even automate much of the work and to cover knowledge gaps you may have.

Assuming though, that, like many folks, you’re on a limited or non-existnet budget, here’s a list of the traits and talents you will need to do it all yourself:

• Analysis – the ability to carefully consider that can often be a very confusing and numerous array of options and strategies
• Patience – the ability to carefully construct and build your business and to stick to and believe in yourself, your dreams and your plans for success
• Drive – the ability to work hard to overcome obstacles and the real desire to succeed no matter what it takes
• Curiosity – the desire to keep learning and improving every aspect about yourself, your habits and your business
• Ambition – the burning desire to succeed and to benefit not only yourself but others too

There’s really no difference in these success traits for starting an Internet home business or any other business such as a greeting card store or a home painting business. However, without ALL of these traits, you’ll be very unlikely to succeed.

What about the infrastructure (products, services, support systems, etc.) you will need?

A brief list (not at all comprehensive) follows:

• An Internet domain and web site. Many affiliate marketing pros wind up with many of these!
• An email list of hot prospects and existing customers and a way to keep in touch with them on a regular basis
• The ability to make attractive and compelling on-line sales presentations
• Affiliate programs to join and promote in your targeted market(s)
• Commision management systems to ensure you get paid when you deserve to
• The ability to support your customers willingly and with enthusiasm

Sound daunting? At first glance, yes it can be. Keep in mind though that there are plenty of products and services to help train and motivate you and to fill in the gaps when you don’t have the time or knowledge to do it all yourself.

As you succeed in this business you’ll find yourself more and more able to repeat the same steps over and over and thereby gain multiple income streams that, if you do it correctly, will continue to make money long after you’ve finished putting effort into their startup.

Have fun learning and doing. Be smart and start small, implement and repeat.

Online Affiliate Marketing Improves Product Offers

One of the advantages of online affiliate marketing programs is that your visitors are already online and are willing to look and shop online for many items. Whether through necessity or with discretionary income, online shopping is gaining ground each year and more people are spending more money online than ever before.

As online security continue to improve using credit card numbers or checking account information is being more freely entered and in order to tap the online market, internet sellers need to have what their visitors are looking for. It is unlikely that any one site will be able to offer everything for everybody, but by using online affiliate marketing, you can probably come pretty close to that goal.

Even if you only carry one item on your own website, visitors will probably not come back if they are not specifically looking for that one item. Additionally, if it is not a disposable item, repeat sales may be few and far between. Instead of adding products to your mix, you can become affiliated with other online stores to offer a wider variety of products and services without the expense of carrying them yourself.

It is considered good business to have any affiliates you sign up with be relevant to your core business to entice your visitors to look at the additional offerings. If they are coming to your site for a specific type of product, seeing offering for similar offerings gives them more of an incentive to click on the ads for the other sites.

Not only will it give your visitors something else to consider, if they end up buying something from the other sites, you receive a sales commission on the purchase, which will improve your bottom line. Different online affiliate marketing plans exist that offer a different type of payout, but commissioned sales leads the pack for profitable offerings.

Some sites will pay per thousand impressions, meaning every time your page with their ad on it is loaded, you get credit for an impression. Other offer a small payment when someone clicks on the ad and visits their page and still others will pay you if your visitor goes to their site and fills in specific information. The majority, however offer the incentive of giving you a percent of the total sale, not including tax and shipping, to give you a reason to get more visitors to your site.

The benefit of online affiliate marketing to the sites is that they get advertising that they only have to pay for if it results in a sale. This performance-based advertising is unique to the internet as costs to put an ad on the site is minimal, and since most website owners are promoting their site anyway, adding another graphic or text link can be done virtually for free.

Making Money With Home Business Income Opportunity

There are many ways to make money with a home business and some of them even live up to their promises. No matter what type of work you do there is a home business income opportunity for you. Whether you work at home or from home, you can find a line of work that you can do and make money doing it.

Multi-level marketing knows no boundaries, in fact when was first developed it was referred to as distributorships and a few companies were able to experience tremendous growth due to these home business income opportunities. Companies like Fuller Brush, Amway and Avon are a few of the bigger names that used multi-level marketing in their sales plan. A sale representative would work in a territory, developing other sales representatives and then they would become area managers, supervising and helping those they trained.

This representative would earn a small commission on the sales of the people they helped develop, all the while working from home. This enabled these companies to develop a national sales team with minimal expense to the company itself. This method also assured that the company’s approach to sales remained consistent as each sales representative used the same sales pitch, injecting it with their own personality, but the main pitch was written by the company and followed by everyone.

With online businesses, the process is similar with one person developing an area and working with others to become sales representatives for a company. The first person in an area will earn income from the sales of others working under them. One main difference is that with many multi-level marketing plans, there is a limit to the number of persons they can recruit to work under them.

Affiliate programs are the newest rage and they can produce a steady income stream. Many companies use affiliate marketing almost exclusively, shying from traditional advertising venues, paying only for responses from advertising. It works since you own your website and place ads on your site for other companies. When a visitor to your site clicks on one of your affiliate ads and makes a purchase, you receive a commission on the sale. If no sales are made, the advertiser does not pay for the space on your site.

For a company, having all of their ads on affiliate sites works in their favor in two ways. First, it gives their advertising visible on thousands of websites. Secondly, one of the methods used by search engines to determine ranking is the number of quality links to a site. With affiliate ads, especially those with similar content linking back to them, they can achieve a higher ranking on search engines, increasing their odds of attracting more visitors.

Home Business Ideas Need Time to Germinate

In order to be successful with a home business ideas will have to be new and innovative and in order for that to happen, your approach will have to innovative as well. There are many businesses out there offering opportunities for a home business, and while many be be good opportunities, the tried and true opportunities may be reaching their peak.

Carefully review your knowledge and abilities and determine what you do well and how it can be turned into a home business. Whether it will be strictly an online business or one, which is based from your home but you travel to meet with clients, your abilities will have to shine through any other aspect of running the home business.

For example, you are really good with your video camera, and have the technical knowledge, you could start a home business producing video podcasts for businesses. While most businesses will be really good at what they do, unless they are a video production studio, they may not have the knowledge to produce a video about their business or a new product. With the continued growth of video in advertising, opening a business’s website with a promotional video can bring them added attention and being able to produce that video can bring you big business.

The company may not have the financial resources to hire one of the large production companies, but if you have taken and edited videos of weddings, which turned out well, it is one home business in a growing field you may want to consider.

In your spare time you may want to become an expert on internet marketing. Once you believe you know more than most businesses, open a home business offering internet marketing for websites. Most service-related companies will rely on internet marketing as most do not have a website, but those that do are always looking for ways to boost their internet presence.

If you are good at building websites, you might want to contact some of the service businesses. While a website may not produce any sales as a direct result, their internet presence that offer some company information could be used to let potential customers learn about the business and the owner before paying them a visit or making a call.

If you enjoy working in your wood shop in the basement, you should consider making some small crafts and selling them at flea markets and craft fairs. If you make special projects, have one display with signs indicating you take special orders. Be sure to have plenty of business cards to hand out. Cards can also be a niche for a home business. Connect with a local printer who can take your ideas and produce economical business cards and sell them to other vendors at the craft shows that you attend.

Internet Home Business is a Game!

I’ve always loved computer games! After all, I’m of the generation that invented them. I’ve been a computer/internet geek since they existed.

I enjoy most computer games and game-box consoles. X-box, Sony, Wii, etc. Action shooters, simulations, Japanese cartoons…you name it.

However, my favorite of all are the computer strategy games. You know…games like The Sims, Imperium, Sim City, Sim Earth or any number of other simulation games; games that make you think.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, these types of games require you to make complex decisions based on intricate strategies. Usually you can’t see the results of your decisions (positive or negative) until several turns or time periods after you’ve made them.

These games are usually based on complex systems of variables and the settings which lead to whatever results occur.

Newbies at these types of games usually make the best decisions they can based on their limited experience. If they are successful, they proceed to the next level. Maybe they learned something or maybe not. The only proof is how far up the ladder of difficulty they achieve.

Their proof is in their score, or the rating and power of their virtual character(s), or, sometimes, just dumb luck.

There is an entire industry based on guide-books, hints and cheat sheets targeted to the players of these games.

Can you see where I’m going here in terms of successful Internet-based home business?

Just like the computer simulation games, the ‘game’ of Internet home-based business relies on a thorough grasp of the interplay of complex variables.

If you don’t have that grasp OR you never even try to learn about them, you just won’t make the cut. Period.

The top computer gamers know this. It’s one reason why there are such persons as ‘professional’ gamers. It’s also why there is a very big market for ganer’s guides, cheat sheets and hint books.

In future posts, I’ll explain a little bit more about the similarities and the methods that all truly successful gamers use to succeed.

I’m pretty sure that I can draw persuasive correlations with the Internet home-based business “game”.
